what are some songs you wish the Dead didn't put to bed so quickly?

For me, it's "cosmic charlie" and "if i had the world to give". IIHTWTG was played three times total.

Mcglone... I guess you didn't attend too many shows from '79-85 when it seemed that Lost Sailor was played too often... I must have seen it 50 times in that era, but I admit I did miss it after it was retired. I was also lucky enough to see Goodnight Irene adn If I Had The World To Give, I thought Irene should have been added as an encore. I also never understood why Passenger was removed from the playlist after 12/81, to me it was one of the best 1st set tunes the boys ever played, it was raucaus, raw and energetic and I loved the power slide licks that Jerry would play on it. Brother Esau was a tune that I really liked as well that the band never really seemed to get a real handle on and subsequently dropped, I thought it had a lot of potential.

Easy Wind (Jerry 1980's) - which reminds me that this is Labor Day weekend so now I have to find a few kind versions. (It's kinda weird, but this is one of those songs where I prefer the SBD over the AUD, otherwise I prefer the high-quality AUD over SBD for a majority of Jerry's tunes to get that full 360-degree feelin') -- Please be safe this weekend, fellow wanderers, we are a dwindling pack and we need you here, --- AshesRising

Keep Rolling By (Birth of The Dead) - a real foot loosening ditty, only available on the Birth of The Dead Rhino disc, (or sample it from Limewire) as a live version.

Cream Puff War, Golden Road, The Only Time Is Now, Standing On The Corner, Confusion Prince,
I Hear A Voice Calling, Til The Morning Comes, Unbroken Chain, Rosemary, And So We Leave The Castle, He Was A Friend Of Mine, Hey Little One, Empty Heart, Early Morning Rain

indeed sir... Rosemary would have been great, played LOUD, live and acoustic with extra texture fx on Jerry's vocal... While Rosemary was understated the one time Garcia played it live, thanks for that link, sun... I just replayed the show and enjoyed Saint Stephen, Eleven and especially New Potato Caboose: http://www.archive.org/details/gd68-12-07.sbd.naines.16944.sbeok.shnf and What's Become Of The Baby, btw, was played karaoke style in a live/tape mix on one strange eve at the Avalon... http://www.setlists.net/?search=true&venue=&city=&state=&month=&day=&year=&songs=What%27s+Become+of+The+Baby%0D%0A&submit=Search

Jerry isn't exactly getting a lot of support on the only live Rosemary...what a shame

once read that Jerry had this idea for the entire Grateful Dead to sound like it was coming out of one voice when they recorded What's Become of the Baby, but couldn't figure out how to do it at the time...an interesting album that he admitted wasn't entirely conducive to live performance..."even China Cat is marginal"...but then Jer was always a modest soul about his accomplishments, gotta love him for it

for sure 'mission'! oh yes... i have always loved 'if i had the world to give'...i think that one, had they allowed it to develop, could have been something really special. along the lines of SOTM... 'it takes alot to laugh, it takes a train to cry'...iknow this came back in the '90s, but the one time previous the band played it (RFK '73, obviously JGB played it oftenish)), i think it may have been one of jerry's best moments. they should have kept it up through their more capable years. i was at the break out in '91(?)and it was really only okay... i also think it is a shame that they quit esau (and passenger)...i only saw that a couple of times.
